  • I have been actively sculpting for about 30 years now, and in all this time my two main principles were perfection and life-long learning. I believe one can never attain perfection in a work of art, but must try to do so every day, and there is always something to learn about ones craft. I have tried and learned several different forms of sculpting, my works mainly include clay-based unglazed terracotta-, casted marble powder- and cast bronze statuettes.
  • I first started to learn modeling clay during the early 1980s from some of the best local sculptors, Sndor Benczdi, and, later, Artr Vetro in a time, when sculpting ,for me ,was more a craft than a university discipline. As their apprentice, I mainly learned the practical know-how of modeling: proportions, perspectives, statics and the like. In the late 1980s-early 1990s. I made acquaintance with an expert potter and ceramist, Mikls Sto, a life-long mentor and friend. He did the firing of my first terracotta figures in his own shop, and also thought me the techniques of firing clay. Thanks to him, after purchasing my own firing oven, unlike most sculptors, I could do the firing of my own terracotta works. In the second half of the 1990s and the 2000s, besides making terracotta figures, I got increasingly involved in casted marble powder sculptures. In those years I developed a unique type of mold I could use for casting various compounds of gypsum and different types of stone powder, including marble and granite. I produced the most marble powder statuettes at that time.
  • In 2009-2010, I spent two years at the Carpatica/Carpati foundry, a smaller family-owned foundry specialized in casting bronze chandeliers, candlesticks and other accessories of interior decoration. There, I studied the lost wax technique of casting bronze. Also, that was the place, I cast my first two bronze statuettes. Since then, I always supervise the casting of my bronze works and do the final polishing myself. Finally, in 2010-2013, I completed my university degree in sculpting at the Art and Design University of Cluj-Napoca. During these years I focused on the theory that was neglected in previous years. I studied subjects that are not essential for the craft, but develop the artists perception of the world and creation, like art history, artistic anatomy and philosophy. The great practical achievement of this period was working on the renovation of the Mathias Corvinus Monument supervised by Tibor Kolozsi one of my professors at university and a later mentor. After graduating, while carying on whith statuettes and exhibitions, I finally took the step of taking commisions for public (outdoor) monuments, some of which are listed below. Latest works
